Jewell A. Brown was born and raised in Reading, Pennsylvania. She attended Governor Mifflin School District her entire primary educational career. There, Jewell began to expand her passion for music by joining the instrumental music program in 4th grade. Jewell spent her elementary, middle, and high school years in any music program the school offered. Whether choir, jazz band, marching band, pit orchestra... Jewell joined it all with excitement and eagerness to keep learning and growing as a musician. In middle school, she also developed a passion for live theater and began to participate in the theater program until graduating high school.
In 2010, Jewell graduated from Governor Mifflin Senior High School with the intention of going to school for music education after attending community college. From 2010-2013, Jewell attended Reading Area Community College where she was active in campus life through many clubs and activities. Some of her notable achievements during this time include:
◈ submitting and participating in collegiate research conferences
◈ being featured on billboards for the college
◈ winning a national recitation contest
◈ working as a Raven Ambassador
◈ being the Raven mascot for the college
◈ winning BerkS Got Talent in 2013.
In preparations for graduation from Reading Area Community College, Jewell signed a transfer agreement with Temple University to continue her higher education upon completing her Associates in Arts degree. At Temple University, Jewell decided to not pursue music education, but decided instead to declare her major in media studies and production. Academically, Jewell focused on emergent media such as video games and social media, as well as live event production, recording studios, post-production, and African American studies. Her research approach focuses on the intersections of womanhood, Blackness, and community. Jewell was a member of the Temple University Diamond Marching Band playing both clarinet and tuba. She was a member of the dance committee leadership, and assisted in lighting design for their annual indoor concert. While at Temple University, Jewell also participated in a production of the Vagina Monologues as an actor.
Jewell returned back home to Reading in 2016, and since has been an active force in the local theater and live event scene. From live events to local theater productions, Jewell has worn many hats. She has worked as a sound designer and operator, lighting designer and operator, stage manager, and production manager. A member of Reading Theater Project since 2017, Jewell has played a critical role in their Creative Team leadership.
Jewell has gravitated towards creative world building in both digital and physical spaces. She describes herself as a professional noisemaker, sound bender & sonic storyteller. She spends her time as a musician, sound designer, theater technician, video game designer, and as a Twitch Affiliate live streamer.
